Reflexologists believe the feet and hands are a mirror of the body.  They also believe that by placing pressure on specific reflex points of the feet, it will affect the corresponding points of the body.  All parts of the foot are massaged so that the whole body may benefit.

There are 7,200 nerve endings in the feet which interconnect through the spine and brain with all areas of the body.

Footwork practices have existed throughout the history of humankind.  The Cherokee Native Americans of North Carolina have for centuries, worked on the feet as a healing art.  Primitive tribes of Africa are also known to have used some basic form of reflexology.

The Chinese are thought to have been the first to use some form of pressure therapy.  This was believed to be very similar to acupuncture.

Evidence of Ancient Egyptian found on tomb drawings dating back 3000 years, show pictures of feet being held and massaged.  The oldest documentation of Reflexology is 2500 - 2330 BC in Egypt in the Physician's Tomb.

  How Does Reflexology Work?

Reflexology reduces stress and induces relaxation, by stimulating nerve endings in the feet.  This information is sent to the spinal cord and brain.  The information from the brain is sent to organs and muscles in the body.  Reflexology helps the body to heal itself, by strengthening and balancing energy flow.

Reflexology does not claim to be a ‘cure-all’ but numerous different disorders have been successfully treated by this method.

Reflexology is beneficial and a very relaxing therapy, regular treatments maintain good health.

Reflexology can relieve physical and psychological discomfort, which helps to promote a healthy mind and body.

How is a Treatment Carried out?

A consultation will be carried out by a fully trained reflexologist prior to any treatments.  The treatments are carried out either on a couch or reclining chair.  You will be asked to remove your socks and shoes.  Talcum powder is applied to the feet.  All areas of the feet are worked, which takes approx. 45 minutes for a full treatment.  To aid your relaxation, soft music will play in the background, whilst you lay back, relax and enjoy.
